Bor: Real-time Linux Desktop Management for IT Teams

Bor is an open-source system designed for the centralized management of Linux desktops, providing IT professionals with a tool to streamline configuration and security across an organization.

The system operates with a lightweight Go agent installed on client machines and a central server. Policies are streamed to clients in real time over mTLS/gRPC, eliminating the need for polling and ensuring immediate updates.

Current capabilities include robust management for applications such as Firefox, Chrome, KDE, dconf, and polkit, alongside comprehensive package management. The recently released version 0.8 expands this functionality to include Thunderbird, Microsoft Edge for Business, and FirewallD zones.

This architecture allows IT administrators to enforce consistent settings, deploy software, and maintain security policies across a fleet of Linux workstations from a single console. The aim is to reduce manual intervention and enhance compliance.
